Augmented Reality
Research
Augmented Reality shows you a live/copied view of a physical, real-world environment, where extra information is generated by a computer (3D images, movies, text, audio). Access to this information may be triggered by location, QR codes or other graphics, or via a request from the user of the device.
Advantages
AR helps you find places and improves international communications
You can increase your knowledge and get information on whatever you're looking at
This can make daily life easier, AR tells us where what we are searching for can be found.
Risks
People could lose touch with reality - miss out on what's actually happening
Risk of too much Spam drowning out useful information
Security issues if someone hacks the system and adds false/dangerous information
AR takes time to process information especially if internet access is slow
AR can distract/steal your attention - could be a safety risk on a busy street
Media
Application for Solving World Hunger
Agricultural augmented reality apps could help farmers recognise hidden details of disease/problems
Augmented reality apps could show extra info about the crops growing in fields
Google glass could be used to give inexperienced farmers instructions to help them grow their crops better
